Modular vs. Epoxy Garage Flooring Systems

Last updated 11 months ago

If you’ve ever thought about transforming your garage from a place where you store all of your extra stuff to a clean, organized, and modern space in your house that you’re actually proud to park your car in, you might want to consider a custom garage flooring system.

Modular Flooring Basics

This type of flooring is made by attaching dozens of non-slip, interlocking tiles into an indoor space. They are typically found in garages and shops, but pretty much any flat surface can be fitted with modular flooring fairly easily. Modular flooring is a great way to transform your garage from a storage unit into a clean, modern, and usable space. Garage flooring systems from brands like RaceDeck and Sport Court are among the best, most reliable modular floors.

Benefits of Modular Flooring

Modular garage flooring is tough. It remains durable even when it’s exposed to grease, oil, petroleum, antifreeze and other mechanical fluids. Modular flooring is also easy to maintain and keep clean, and comes in a wide variety of color schemes. And unlike epoxy, modular flooring does not require glues or chemicals during installation. It also is not affected by moisture, is installed quickly, and is easy to repair or remove.  There’s no preparation required other than to have the garage floor cleared of boxes, cars, and other things you typically store in your garage.

Epoxy Flooring Basics

Epoxy is a type of coating that is painted onto concrete garage floors. Before applying epoxy, a garage floor must be de-greased, vacuumed, washed, rinsed and scrubbed. And after epoxy is applied, you cannot walk across the surface for at least 12 hours, and cannot move any items onto the floor for at least 24 hours.

Benefits of Epoxy Flooring

Car lovers tend to like epoxy flooring because it makes their garage look like a car showroom. Epoxy isn’t slippery, it can be painted with decorative chips, and it’s easy to clean things like tire marks off of epoxy simply by wiping the floor down.
